THE PRIVATE PILOT LICENCE – HELICOPTER:
The Private Pilot Licence is guided towards individuals who maybe entertaining the notion of buying/building their own helicopter or just want to fly for fun.
The course can be completed in as little as three months if taken on a full time basis or can be tailored to each individual's schedule.
Prerequisites:
- An applicant must be a Canadian Citizen, landed immigrant, or a person lawfully admitted to Canada for flight training.
- An applicant may commence flight training at any age, but must be 14 years of age prior to first solo and 17 years of age for the issue of a private licence-helicopter.
- Prior to first solo, an applicant must successfully complete a medical examination by a Transport Canada approved medical doctor.

| Privileges |
The holder of a private Pilot Licence-Helicopter may act as pilot-in-command or co-pilot of a helicopter for which the licence is endorsed. |
| Knowledge |
40 hrs of ground school. Pass 100-question multiple-choice exam obtaining at least 60% in each of 4 subject areas as well as 60% in the overall exam. |
| Experience |
Minimum 45 hrs total helicopter time (5 hrs may be simulator); with:
Minimum 17 hrs dual flight time: including 5hrs(3hrs may be simulator) of instrument flight time and 3 hrs of cross-country flight time.
Minimum 12 hrs solo flight time - including 5 hrs of cross country flight time with 1 cross country flight of not less than 100 nautical miles and 2 full stop landings at points other than the point of departure. |
